Phase III Corrective Action And Remediation
Phase III Corrective Action and Remediation is undertaken to address, remove, and/or mitigate contamination or contaminants associated with a recognized environmental condition. Phase III Corrective Action and Remediation is used to protect human health and the surrounding environment or, at a minimum, return a site to pre-existing condition.

Phase III Corrective Action and Remediation consists of five (5) main components

1. Waste Classification

  • Representative samples are analyzed for waste classification parameters at an accredited testing laboratory.
  • The laboratory results are used to classify the waste or material for handling storage, treatment, and disposal purposes.
2. Work Plan
  • A Corrective Action Plan (CAP) or Remedial Action Plan (RAP) is prepared to provide a detailed set of plans and procedures for corrective action and remediation activities.
  • The plans are often submitted to regulatory agencies for review and approval.
3. Fieldwork
  • Standard physical removal of contaminated materials and wastes or contaminants.
  • Installation of in-situ or in-place remediation systems, such as, but not limited to, soil vapor extraction, pump and treat, and oxygen releasing components (organic materials and microbiological organisms).
4. Post-Project Sampling and Analysis
  • The post-project or confirmation sampling and laboratory analysis is used to evaluate the physical removal activities or monitor an active in-situ system associated with corrective action and remediation fieldwork.
5. Project Report
  • Project information obtained during the corrective action and remediation is evaluated and compared against established regulatory limits and standards to determine a course of action, such as no further action (NFA), closure, or additional monitoring.
  • The reports are often submitted to regulatory agencies for review and approval.
Phase III Corrective Action and Remediation is often used to address:
Bulk Storage Tanks (underground
   and aboveground)
Drummed/Containerized Wastes
   and Materials
Asbestos-Containing Materials ·
Lead-Based Paint
Contaminated Soil and Groundwater
Spills/Discharges/Releases
Drainage Systems
Mold
